Setting up Netscape Communicator 4.51 for E-mail and News groups

If you are just trying to double check your Settings, then click here to do so.


For starters, since there have been so many different versions of Netscape Communicator 4.x, this page will be for configuring Netscape Communicator 4.51. It is highly recommended to get the latest version of Netscape Communicator. Now let's begin.

Starting at your Desktop, go to the "Task Bar" and click on Start ---> Programs ---> Netscape Communicator ---> Utilities ---> User Profile Manager.


Click on "New...".

Click on "Next >"

Type your name or an alias in the Full Name field. Enter your "Username" in the Email Address field. Click "Next >".

Enter the Profile Name as your "Username". The Directory below the Profile Name field that is shown should be fine for you to work with, so unless there is a real need to change it, leave it as is and click on "Next >".

Enter the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server as "smtp.cxp.com". Click "Next >".

Enter the Mail server user name as your "Username". Enter the Incoming Mail Server as "pop.cxp.com". Make sure the Mail Server type is "POP3". Click "Next >".

Screen Shot: [Set up your Incoming Mail Server] Enter your Username in the "Mail server user name" field. Enter "pop.cxp.com" in the "Incoming Mail Server" field. Select "POP3" for the Mail Server type.


Enter the News (NNTP) server as "news.cxp.com". Make sure the Port is "119" and that Secure is NOT checked. Click "Finish". Your basically done!!  :)

To open the Netscape Messenger E-mail program from your Browser (Netscape Navigator), Click on either "Inbox" on the window shown below, or click on the "smaller version" of "Inbox" at the bottom right of your browser. These two locations are shown below.

That's it!! Netscape Messenger should now be configured to receive e-mail from your CyberXpress account. To have your mail delivered or received, click on "Get Msg". If you're not already connected, Netscape should use your Dial-Up Networking connection to dial CyberXpress. All received mail should appear in the Inbox.
