For starters, since there have been so many different versions of Netscape Communicator 4.x, this page will be for configuring Netscape Communicator 4.51. It is highly recommended to get the latest version of Netscape Communicator. Now let's begin.
Go ahead and open up a Netscape program (Communicator, Messenger, Navigator, etc...). Click on Edit, then Preferences.
Click on the category on the left called Navigator. Make sure you have the Home page Location set to: http://members.cxp.com/. Continue to next screen below...
Open up the Mail & Newsgroups category (click the + to open up the a Main category), then click on the Identity Sub-Category. Make sure you have your name or an alias entered in the Your name field. Make sure you have your E-mail address entered in correctly under the Email address field. Continue to the next screen below...
Click on the Mail Servers Sub-Category, which is located under the category Mail & Newsgroups. Make sure the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server is set to "smtp.cxp.com" & that you have your "Username" entered in correctly in the Outgoing mail server user name field. Make sure the circle (radio button) Never is selected for the option Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages. Proceed to the next screen below...
Click on "pop.cxp.com" under the option Incoming Mail Servers. Click on Edit...
If "pop.cxp.com" is not under the Incoming Mail Server area, then click Add... If you had to add the server, then make sure to make the Incoming Mail Server "pop.cxp.com" & to place your "Username" in the User Name field. If you do this, you can skip the next screen below.
You should now be under the General tab. Make sure the Server Name is set to "pop.cxp.com". Make sure the Server Type is set to "POP3 Server". Make sure your "Username" is entered correctly in the User Name field. You may want to check the option, "Remember password" so you won't have to continually type it in.
If you have Filtered Internet Access with CyberXpress (That would be Internet Access with certain Filters that block out Adult Content and other Misc. sites) then you need to make sure you check these settings. If your Internet has been working fine, or you do not have Filtered Internet Access with us, then skip these next two screens.
Open up the Advanced Category by clicking the + sign. Click on the Sub-Category Proxies. Make sure the circle (radio button) Manual proxy configuration is selected, then click on View...
Make sure you have everything typed in JUST as it looks in the screen shot below. All Server Types BUT Socks should have an address of "proxy.cxp.com" and a Port of "8821". The Socks server should not be touched. Click on OK when you are done. Click on OK once more.
To open the Netscape Messenger E-mail program from your Browser (Netscape Navigator), Click on either "Inbox" on the window shown below, or click on the "smaller version" of "Inbox" at the bottom right of your browser. These two locations are shown below.
That's it!! Netscape Messenger should now be configured to receive e-mail from your CyberXpress account. To have your mail delivered or received, click on "Get Msg". If you're not already connected, Netscape should use your Dial-Up Networking connection to dial CyberXpress. All received mail should appear in the Inbox.
